[HALLOWEEN] Estate of Panic

Professor Peach, Lumin, and Nora Valkyrie. This three person team had bravely volunteered to go their separate ways from the rest of the group in order to meet with the Mayor of Hollow. Truthfully while Peach had instructed her students not to wander the mansion freely and stay close to her, she wouldn't stop the pair if they just "happened" to slip away from her "totally unseen". She suspected the two students in her care probably picked up on as much when she gave them a wink while discussing proper etiquette while in the estate of a politician.

But they had to get there first. As the trio traveled up the winding path to the hill on which the Mayoral Estate sat a cold wind blew across their paths, with it a vortex of leaves spiraled by from the trees that surrounded them. Even on the elevated hills one would find this area was heavily forested. Their journey to the top was relatively uneventful, but the sheer quietness of it all would put anyone on edge. Professor Peach however was not phased by it. She strolled along with her pockets in her coat, all the way until they reached the end of the path.

A large iron gate stood in their way, blocking their only way into the mansion that loomed just beyond the solid steel bars. If one paid careful attention, they'd notice that wrought iron wasn't the only security in place here. The entire fence and the gate itself was electrified, keeping grimm and would-be intruders at bay with the threat of a nasty shock. More than that however, several small security cameras were perched along the fence, allowing the residents to see beyond the boundaries of the estate without ever leaving it. The electronic eyes slowly whirred back and forth, surveying the area. The one that sat above the gate had stopped moving once it settled on the trio waiting outside.

Professor Peach glanced over to Nora, shaking her head in disapproval for a moment. She didn't need to utter a single word. It was likely Tetra had been thinking the exact same thing in regards to Nora and electrified fences. Next to the fence was a small metal post with a speaker attached. A little red button installed just beneath. The professor stepped forward and depressed the button, watching as the speaker hummed to life, and a voice came from the box.

"Ah, visitors on a day like today? Odd, we haven't had many of those as of late. Well if you have business with the estate then please speak up."

Peach smiled, glancing back to her students for a moment before turning to face the speaker. She spoke calmly.

"My little students and I are here on an official investigation from the academy. I'm sure the mayor already knows we're coming, but of course I've got credentials too!"

Professor Peach took out her scroll, pressed a few things on the holographic screen, and then held it up to the camera perched atop the gate.

A Huntress License. It proved not only that she was in fact qualified to be here doing this investigation, but that she was exactly who she said she was. The camera's shutter shifted ever so subtly as the lens zoomed in to get a closer look. But after a moment of silence the voice on the other end spoke up once more.

"Ah yes, the Hunters from Beacon. The Mayor has informed us of your arrival ahead of time. Please madams, make your way to the front door. We shall guide you to the mayor without a moment to spare. Oh, do stand back please. For your safety."

The speaker shut off, the static dying out. Professor Peach stepped back with a smile on her face, pocketing her scroll as the gate made a mechanical clicking sound. The two halves of the gate slowly retracted away, granting the Beacon trio free passage onto the estate. Indeed once they had done so the gate would close behind them, locking them within a place of safety. Given the situation here in Hollow this was likely the safest place there in fact. A butler dressed in fine clothing waited at the front door for their arrival. The mansion itself was spectacular. Now that they had passed the gate there was a much better view of the place this village's mayor called home. The place every mayor of Hollow had called home for years now.

It was clear even from a glance just how old this home was. And yet even despite the age it showed, it wasn't the kind of wear that indicated disuse. The land itself was filled with a spectacular garden that rivaled even the one back at Beacon. From the windows the property's employees watched the beacon team make their way in. Everyone here was clearly very interested in what was going on, and what these strange Hunters might find now that they had arrived. For Peach, Nora, and Tetra, there was an audience, and it wasn't polite to keep them waiting.

Lumin couldn’t feel things the way humans and Faunus could. The vast majority of her body was metallic, and she was always strong. She had rarely ever felt threatened by anything before. She could count on one hand the number of times she had felt genuine fear and could recall all those moments vividly.

Nora aside, Lumin knew that this whole environment was what others called “creepy” or “unsettling”. But Lumin didn’t feel that. Things like a chill down her spine raised hairs at the back of her neck, and being creeped out were foreign to her. She was primarily ruled by logic after all. She knew that she should be creeped out by the foreboding air that was likely hovering over the village.

Or perhaps she wouldn’t be. She glanced over at Professor Peach, and then over at her girlfriend. Neither of them seemed to be perturbed by the whole situation. Lumin attributed that to Peach’s experience and Nora… Lumin looked over at her girlfriend. Nora was… Nora. She didn’t handle situations like most people would either. Which was why she gave her a knowing look when they came across the electrified fence.

“Don’t test your limits on this electrical fence Nora."

She was pretty sure she wouldn't try using her semblance, but sometimes the obvious needed to be said when it came to her.

Peach handled the interactions that got them into the Mansion grounds. So she wouldn't have to worry about her girlfriend trying something crazy, at least for the time being. Lumin looked around the staff there as they made their way towards the mansion. She turned and looked over at Peach.

"We should considering asking some of the staff about events going on in the village after we meet the mayor."

She walked alongside her teacher and girlfriend, at least for the time being. Their goal was a meeting with this places mayor. Nora had to admit she was curious about the kind person who would run this place. Her teachers look her way, and the expression given said all she needed to know. It was an expression Lumin seemed to agree with as she gave voice to what was very clearly what the teacher was getting at Nora gave a huff, crossing her arms and looking away.

”Hey when have I ever done such a… well there was that time fighting mauve, and during our training sessions….. H…hey you can’t just call me out like that!

As if she would ever… ever…. Ah, Nora was gazing at the gate now, almost like it was calling to her. Was that a bit of drool escaping her mouth?

”I… I would never do that! yeah!”

Despite her seemingly confident statement, the thunder clap girl would very clearly be dissapointed for a moment, though she quickly tried to straighten up. More so once the speaker started up. Peach had a way for them, a considerably less fun way if you asked her but… the better way to do it she supposed. She gave a firm nod to Lumin, to show how confident she was in their success here. As they continued and followed behind peach and the butler Peach’s… pokes let’s say did have a bit of the intended effect on Nora herself. Nora rubbed her chin in thought.

”Say Tetra, whats your favorite kind of girl?”

Well, that was ether going to be a really easy…. Or ovethinkingly difficult question, Nora herself? She was just fishing for it to be her, of course, Nora was an energetic, positive powerful girl, but due to her upbringing it was just… nice, to hear such things every once in a while, most of all from those she cared about.

”It’s a big place to, maybe when we have free time, we can sneak off and have time just to us”

That last part was whispered-just in case their teacher was listening in, just in case she wasn’t actually encouraging it. Walking into the field itself she couldn't help but notice how… old it looked. Not in an abandoned way, but it had clearly been a while.

”I think Tetra has a point miss Pearl, oooh maybe we can do good cop bad cop, Tetra would make a killer good copy! You should see what happens when she offers people coffee, they practically spill information then and there! One time she offered a donut, and they told her their life story!”

Nora cracked her knuckles, it was… clear what role she’d want there..

A bit more serious though, she crossed her arms, taking note of something the others might not have.

”Geez though… who needs this many servants? It’s like im visiting the Schenee mansion or something… is it… that hard to make your own sandwich or take a bath? I’ll never understand it”

Because for most of there life she and Rin had fought for everything themselves, anything they wanted, that included a bath, or whether or not they ate that night.

That was why this idea was so counter to the girl herself, why she couldn't wrap her head around it. Earning something yourself, pulling off something you didn't think you could… growth… why would anyone want to take that away from themselves, to pawn it on someone else?
