Stormborder
A lone ship drifts through space towards it's destination. Machinery giving off a quiet hum indicating that everything is working as it should. The crew was mostly in Cryosleep at the moment, save for one member. Work to maintain the ship was often done in shifts. The AI handled a lot of the work, but practical maintenance and a Human eye was needed to make sure that nothing was going haywire.
The Life Support systems were working like they should. Oxygen and Water was flowing as needed. Solar Panels weren't indicating any errors... All in all, exactly what you could ask for on a trip like this.
And as it continued it's course coming close to the Terrestrial Exoplanet Copper 9... That's when things started going wrong.
The ship violently rocked, and then started on a crash course towards Copper 9. By the time the problem could be assessed, it was too late to start reversing it -- the crew would have to make due on this planet and try to get the ship operational again.
Fortunately, it was designed to ensure survival in the event of a crash landing. It was quite the nasty landing, but it comes to a stop on a solid surface, and now the damage can be assessed...
The Solar Panels are still functional, though it's having trouble drawing in enough energy to power the entire ship. With the batteries on board, they have enough power to last a few days, and the Solar Panels help buy a bit more time on top of that. But they would need a main power source to work with, and they would need it soon.
The engines were completely shot. Communications Relay was out too. Even the fuel line had taken a beating. It would take a lot of work to fix this ship up. But even looking out the windows was enough to ensure that they could find the materials they needed. There was the remnants of a Human Civilization out there... It looked like the entire thing was suddenly frozen over in an instant.
The inside of the ship was safe, but to leave they would need to be in their thermal suits -- and they would have to leave sooner or later in order to find a power source to keep the ship running. At least the things that would supply them what they needed.
The good news... The Fabrication Machines still worked -- not that they were intended to make weapons, but fortunately it looked like it wouldn't be needed. Water worked too, along with Oxygen; if anything the Oxygen was the one thing NOT running out anytime soon. It was able to filter in the atmosphere and purify it.
There was a concern over food, but that would be fine too as long as power could be maintained. Part of the maintenance was the crops on board the ship, which needed harvesting and reseeding. They had a decent stockpile to work with, and could keep more coming in.
So... That's where the story opens. One ruined ship crashlanded on Copper 9.
The Crew would soon find out that despite appearances, they were not the only source of life on this planet, either....
