Well, let's see... Where to begin... The creation of Gensokyo was a lengthy process, several members of the Hakurei Clan herded up all the Youkai, bringing them to this land, and then they raised the Barrier.
The spell was devastating to them, only a handful survived. In any case, with the various Youkai living here, there were strains because the various races could not get along.
It broke down to the 'normal' Youkai, those above the Surface, against the 'abnormal' Youkai, those in the Underground. The 'normal' Youkai began to push us into the Underground. Of course, we fought back.
Even Humans aided in this task, but there was one final push needed, the Enma and the Shinigami also aided in sealing us Underground. Naturally, we were angry. Not at any one race, against everyone that did us wrong.
The hate died out, along with every old generation from that day. Every Youkai you see here is a 'newborn'. That is why they are not as hateful as the others. The exceptions being myself, and Koishi. However, Koishi.... Well. She is too young to recall what happened.
