The roar of airship engines filled the skies as a beacon airship flew off towards the mountains in the distance. Those onboard were part of an important mission, a mission in which the gathered teachers began to relay to everyone gathered inside the cabin.
A bright blue holographic screen was displaying information at the front of the airship's cabin for everyone to see. It was a map of the area they were going to. Professor Peach gave a warm smile to all the students as she gave them a run down on the operation, her hands clasped together as she stood to the side of the screen. There was a lot to go over in such a short flight, but it was all important information. For each of the gathered teachers the safety of their students was at the top of their priorities. It was highly unusual for first years to be involved in any field missions, much less one that's been granted such a high level of importance.
"We're deeply sorry this whole thing came up on such short notice children, but I promise it will be a learning experience for all of you! I'm certain you're already aware of the details of this mission, but we felt like it would be best if we went over a few more things that you should know! First, Hollow Village has agreed to allow Beacon full access to the inn there. Mostly because I persuaded Miss Glynda to put it on the school's tab..."
Peach covered her mouth, clearing her throat and averting her gaze for a moment as she attempted to brush that last detail away before anyone could really pay attention to it. That aside, she continued speaking, looking back to everyone seated in front of her.
"That being the case, we decided to make this our base of operations during the mission. We can regroup there at any time to share our findings, collaborate ideas, and ensure total safety. And of course if anyone comes into harm Miss Rhea and I will be acting as field medics! Your auras should heal any minor scrapes and bruises, but it wouldn't do if we didn't tend to your more serious injuries! You can count on the both of us!"
Vask Vanta stood up, moving next to the screen as he changed the information displayed on it to a wide area view of the region. Rather than the village and the surrounding landmarks, this map was far less detailed and showed the surrounding mountain range. He spoke up with a voice that was far more gruff and stern than Professor Peach's, but it displayed well both his experience and just how seriously he was taking all of this.
"Allow me to cover the second detail professor. The local village area is much too forested for anything other than emergency landings. But considering our engines are working perfectly fine, and none of us want to scare the natives, we're going to be landing a short hike away in a clearing...Here."
He pointed to a spot on the map, a small circle of land that was devoid of trees. A grove without any particular details to it. It was perfectly level for an airship landing. Unfortunately a quick scan of the area map would reveal that it was the closest grove for miles around.
"It will likely take a few hours so you should all be prepared for making the rest of this trip on foot. Make sure you have plenty of water, that all your gear is packed appropriately, and most importantly - Don't separate from the group. The last thing we need is for one of us to get lost wandering away. It's important for us to make it before nightfall so we should keep a steady pace of movement. We left in the early morning for a reason, but if you mess around it will still take longer than necessary. I suspect none of you will have any particular difficulties making a trip like that, your aura should augment whatever stamina you might lack. But I still need all of you to be aware of what we're going to be doing when we land.
The mountains around Vale are fairly untouched by grimm, but that doesn't mean there aren't any. Keep your senses sharp and don't relax for even a moment. Until we've arrived in the village we'll be in the middle of the wilderness. None of you need me to tell you this, but the wilds of Remnant are nothing to play around with."
For some reason, when Vanta said that last part, he was looking at Nora in particular...
Professor Peach clapped her hands together and smiled as she looked over to the other teacher.
"Excellent points Mr. Vanta! Very concise! He is of course correct, it won't be much of an issue for any of my wonderful students, but it pays to be aware of what you're going into! For the third and final point, the teachers all agreed that we would take one team each to assist! I'm certain you'll all want to split off into your own personal groups to carry out the mission and that's why we want to ensure your utmost safety! Don't worry, we won't hold your hands through all of this, after all what's a learning experience if you aren't allowed to freely pursue your teachings? But if things get too dangerous we'll be ready to step in! As for who is going with each team... We decided it through careful consideration of each team's strengths and weaknesses."
A complete lie. They played rock paper scissors for it. Professor Peach glanced off towards a window with a grin on her face...She looked back to the students and continued speaking.
"Team RWBY, your assigned teacher will be the wonderful Professor Esmerelda!"
Weiss looked...Far too excited about this. But considering this teacher worked with dust quite frequently, it was no mystery as to why the Schnee heiress respected her so much. She did very little to hide her excitement, prompting Alba to laugh with a smirk on his face as he looked back at her from the seats in front of Team RWBY. Weiss's expression turned to one of annoyance as her cheeks flushed red from embarrassment.
"W-What's so funny?!"
Alba's laugh might have stopped but the grin he wore didn't go away as he responded to her, resting his arms on the back rest of the seat as he stared at her.
"You're a lot more diligent than you let on, huh Weiss?"
Weiss's face contorted into shock as her embarrassment grew! She quickly kicked the back of Alba's seat and protested!
"Shut up or I'll make you carry my pack too dolt!"
The amnesiac chuckled, turning back around to face the front where Peach was speaking. And with that interruption out of the way the professor cleared her throat and continued to do so.
"Yes well...That aside, Alba you shouldn't make light of someone's situation, after all...Team JADE is being accompanied by Miss Snapdragon!"
... If Alba wasn't already naturally pale, he would have gone pale at the sound of that name. The poor lad was struck by instant karma for teasing Weiss.
"For VOWL, Mr. Vanta has kindly offered his assistance."
Vask gave a nod, looking over to where team VOWL was seated.
"I couldn't pass up the opportunity. Little Veronica was my student long before she came to Beacon! She's got a lot of promise and I wanna see that for myself. I see that same kind of promise in all four of you, so you had better not let me down!"
He smiled at them, giving them encouraging words. Veronica gave a small smile in return, though she was clearly worried about having so much responsibility placed on her shoulders.
"Um...Thanks Mr. Vanta. We're...Happy to have you accompany us, I think?"
Peach gave that exchange a warm smile of her own, glancing over to the three members of Team MARC as she announced the next teacher.
"For you three, Rhea has agreed to join you in your mission! I'm certain it will be quite fun! It's unfortunate that Mr. Chaos couldn't join you in this operation, but all my little students will definitely have a lot of stories to share with him when we get back!"
Snow sat silently in her seat, giving a nod of approval over Rhea joining them.
"He had his reasons for staying behind and I will respect them as his leader. I will simply have to do my best to double my efforts and make up for his absence during our mission. I'm honored to have you accompanying us, Professor Rhea."
And at last, they came to the final volunteer. Peach looked over to Lumin and Nora, Howard and the rest of JNPR absent for this mission.
"And last, but certainly not least, I myself will be joining little Tetra and Nora! I simply couldn't let them go alone, especially when it's just the two of them! You can both count on me for anything!"
With the briefing finished, the holographic screen blinked away, and Professor Peach looked to all the gathered passengers, a smile still on her face.
"We're only about an hour away from our landing zone now! Does anyone have any questions before we arrive? This might be your best chance to ask!"
Alba raised his hand in response, a pressing question on his mind.
"Yes little Alba, what is it?"
The amnesiac smiled at her, a hand on his stomach as he spoke up, asking perhaps the most vital question of all...
"When do we eat? I'm starving!"
Professor Peach let out a defeated sigh. It was pretty much exactly what she was expecting him to say.
